i find that it's very difficult to explain in words why i find something interesting, or to establish criteria for what is interesting and uninteresting. but here goes:
three different skies
three different qualities of light
three different landscapes
the sky is big and blue and purple and it's so huge that the buildings look like a bunch of confetti on the ground. maybe one or two monopoly houses, a hotel. a plane is suspended in thin air above the horizon, or maybe it's strung from the line of vapor dangling above. i think the pink color might be smog and it makes the confetti airport feel more industrial than it should probably look under that big sky. the whole thing is just a big flat empty two dimensional block of blue. somehow there's a plane stuck in the middle of it, i want to say inexplicably. i think of 2001 and the monolith as i notice that the vapor, the airplane, and the monopoly hotel are all in line. i expect to hear zarathustra.
1. airplane
here's one. eight fifty three arcadia sands. three palm trees and a resort that looks like a bowling team uniform. saturated blue washed out hyper green. not real green, too green, hyper-green. overexposed, sunbleached, jelly-bean colored. but the trees are so tall and thin, i can't believe they can stand up like that, growing in little clusters in front of a sunbleached resort. giraffe legs. so many vertical lines (i count twelve) all huddled together near the bottom to explode into this block of sky with its horizontal mass of clouds. some kind of
west coast plaid.
2. palms
it's about seven o'clock in the early spring and the sky is getting purple and the birds are happy or they know something important's about to happen. the streetlight's not on yet, it's not dark enough, but about now i need to put on my glasses before i get into the car. the few minutes before it gets dark right after the golden hour. the birds must have had a great day or a terrible day, i'm not sure. ever since i was a kid i've wondered how they all decide which telephone line to land on, how they all agree. silhouetted mess of intersecting lines, more plaid in the sky. how do we live under so many wires?
3. streetlamp
